At Rahma Community and Youth Centre, we are committed to supporting newcomer, immigrant, and underserved youth in Winnipeg by providing inclusive, accessible, and culturally grounded programs. Our youth initiatives nurture personal growth, academic achievement, leadership, and community connection — helping young people thrive in all areas of their lives.
Our programs are grouped into Four key areas:
1. Leadership & Mentorship
Bright Beginning Mentorship Program
This flagship program connects high school youth — especially those from refugee and newcomer backgrounds — with university and college student mentors. Through regular one-on-one sessions, group workshops, and community engagement. Participants gain:
- Academic support and goal setting
- Public speaking, civic engagement, and team-building skills
- Career exploration and post-secondary guidance
- A safe, culturally familiar space for personal development
Mentors are trained university students from diverse backgrounds who understand the challenges newcomer youth face and are dedicated to empowering the next generation.
2. Girls Empowerment Circle
A culturally safe and affirming space for girls (ages 11–17) to build confidence, self-awareness, and leadership. Through art, dialogue, group mentorship, and wellness activities, girls explore:
- Self-identity and body positivity
Leadership and public speaking
- Mental wellness and emotional resilience
- Creative expression through storytelling, crafts, and music
This program fosters sisterhood, belonging, and pride in one’s cultural and personal identity.
3. Recreation & Wellness
Basketball & Soccer Programs
Our recreational sports programs offer weekly drop-in and team-based activities that emphasize fun, inclusion, and teamwork. Youth build friendships and confidence while staying active.
- Open to boys and girls of all skill levels
- Encourages discipline, cooperation, and sportsmanship
- Supports physical and mental wellness
- Coaches from within the community serve as mentors and role models
Programs are free and accessible for youth from newcomer and low-income families.
