At Rahma Community and Youth Centre, we are committed to supporting newcomer, immigrant, and underserved youth in Winnipeg by providing inclusive, accessible, and culturally grounded programs. Our youth initiatives nurture personal growth, academic achievement, leadership, and community connection — helping young people thrive in all areas of their lives.

Our programs are grouped into Four key areas:

1. Leadership & Mentorship

Bright Beginning Mentorship Program

This flagship program connects high school youth — especially those from refugee and newcomer backgrounds — with university and college student mentors. Through regular one-on-one sessions, group workshops, and community engagement. Participants gain:

  • Academic support and goal setting
  • Public speaking, civic engagement, and team-building skills
  • Career exploration and post-secondary guidance
  • A safe, culturally familiar space for personal development

Mentors are trained university students from diverse backgrounds who understand the challenges newcomer youth face and are dedicated to empowering the next generation.

2. Girls Empowerment Circle

A culturally safe and affirming space for girls (ages 11–17) to build confidence, self-awareness, and leadership. Through art, dialogue, group mentorship, and wellness activities, girls explore:

  • Self-identity and body positivity
  • Leadership and public speaking

  • Mental wellness and emotional resilience
  • Creative expression through storytelling, crafts, and music

This program fosters sisterhood, belonging, and pride in one’s cultural and personal identity.

3. Recreation & Wellness

Basketball & Soccer Programs

Our recreational sports programs offer weekly drop-in and team-based activities that emphasize fun, inclusion, and teamwork. Youth build friendships and confidence while staying active.

  • Open to boys and girls of all skill levels

  • Supports physical and mental wellness
  • Coaches from within the community serve as mentors and role models
